Tiger Energy Playground

Kids at play can go a long way. For the kids of Hospicio de San Jose, the energy they spend to play can now be turned into energy for the orphanage, thanks to a special playground presented to them by Tiger Energy Biscuit.

Called the Tiger Energy Playground, it includes two popular types of park equipment, a seesaw and a merry-go-round but with added features.  The Tiger Energy Biscuit brand of Kraft Foods (Philippines) Inc. teamed up with the Mapua Institute of Technology to make the equipment convert the energy created by the kids’ while playing into electrical energy that can be used in the Hospicio compound. In short, every bit of energy that kids exert can be turned by the equipment into electricity to light lamp posts and other appliances.

The team from Mapua is made up of Electrical Engineering thesis advisers Engr. Michael Pacis, Engr. Conrad Ostia, Engr. Ronald Santiago and Engr. Mark Christian Manuel; and students John Ray Abad, Merryll Capucao, Lynette Dane Legaspi, Jovan Barrago, Jeffrey Adams Uy, Daniel Oliver Calapatia, and Dave Bautista.

Tiger Energy Biscuit is the delicious and nutritious biscuit made of wheat and with milk and has the 9 vitamins and 6 minerals of Enermaxx. This unique combination helps give your child the energy he needs for the entire day. The concept of the Tiger Energy Playground merges the benefits kids get from the brand, with the ability to convert energy into a commodity that can benefit a community.
Initial tests have shown that the Tiger Energy Playground can store up to 36 hours worth of power for every 24 hours of play.
Kraft Foods Category Marketing Manager for Biscuits, Carlo Licuanan said, “We chose to donate the Tiger Energy Playground to Hospicio de San Jose to remind the children here that they have not been forgotten this Christmas, and that there is reason for them to be hopeful for a bright future. Hopefully soon, the Playground will also be able to help Hospicio in its operations, by helping provide part of its power consumption so that their monthly electricity bill can be reduced.”
Though still in the early stages of implementation, the Tiger Energy Park is already seen by all participating institutions as a positive way forward, not only for Hospicio de San Jose, but for the development of Philippine-made devices to help provide electricity to less fortunate communities around the country. A new life for KC Concepcion

After the ups and downs of KC Concepcion this year 2011, she is set to take higher heights for her career. She wrapped up the drama and rediscovered her self with new look, KC renewed her contract with ABSCBN under the management of VIVA.  Lots of exciting projects are set for this lovely lady. She is part of the much anticipated primetime drama ‘Alta’ with Angelica Panganiban and Gretchen Barreto. She also shared via Bandila that she will be doing a new talk show and hosting stints. She is eager to pursue her hosting career and she will be regularly seen on ASAP every Sunday.

But aside from these exciting new projects, KC will be also hosting the newest talent show of ABSCBN. She will be hosting the Philippines’ grandest and newest reality show “The X Factor Philippines”. The show is set to be aired in the first half of 2012 and joined by four judges and mentors. Kc will be visiting various cities in the Philippines for the preliminary auditions.

So with the success of America’s X Factor where Melanie Amaro was hailed as the first grand champion, it’s time that Philippines have to show the world our talent. With a very lovely and witty host, I am pretty sure that this will be a big hit. Congratulations Kc and we will see more of you this 2012.

MMFF Biggest and Grandest movie - Enteng ng Ina Mo !

Words cannot describe how huge this article is.

I am honored to post the 2011 MMFF biggest, grandest, funniest, and enormous film. I can say that this is a dream project made into reality. This is the joint forces of two gigantic movies of Metro Manila Film Festival, Enteng Kabisote and Tanging Ina Mo. Star Cinema, M-Zet Films, OctoArts Films and APT Entertainment came up of the dream project pairing up two biggest royalties of showbiz, Comedy Blockbuster King Bossing Vic Sotto and Comedy Queen Ai Ai Delas Alas.

For the past years of MMFF, Enteng and Tanging Ina are battling teeth to teeth for supremacy. Ai Ai prove herself after her Tanging Ina movies went to be blockbuster films and hailed her as festival’s Best Actress last year. Moreover, Bossing is continuing his legendary adventures through Enteng Kabisote since 1990 until to this date.

December 20, 2011, in Cravings, Katipunan, bloggers in the Metro Manila gathered for the conference conducted by Star Cinema for movie “Enteng ng Ina Mo”. Bossing Vic came to the conference alongside with movie’s writer Danno Kristoper C. Mariquit and director Tony Y Reyes. Bossing entered the venue with a very inviting greeting to everyone.

Bossing was so flattered for this project for this is his most ambitious and grandest project. He defines the difference of his crowd to Ai Ai’s. He said that he past Enteng movies was of magical and mystic type while Ai Ai’s was more of reality and feminist type. But they shared one thing in common; both films valued the importance of family. In this movie, Enteng ng Ina Mo, there’s a line varying between fantasy and reality.

Writer Danno Kristoper C. Mariquit admitted that he has hard time thinking how the two different world of Ina Montecillo will and Enteng Kabisote will meet. He studied both of the films and sees one thing they shared in common. For at the end of the day, both characters will go back to their roots – FAMILY.

Bossing shared that the idea of putting this Enteng and Ina movie started when Ai Ai joked in her acceptance speech. Ai Ai said that he wants to marry Vic Sotto. And everything came to reality when Star Cinema opened up to bossing their intention of making Ai Ai-Vic film after making Doktor Kwak with Bea Alonzo.

The movie is filled with funny and magical scenes. They revealed that they have spoofed famous Star Cinema movies. And Bossing shared that his favorite time doing this film was during their downtime. It’s their time to bond with each other knowing the fact that they came from two different stations. I asked bossing how much is the possibility of a second installation for Enteng ng Ina Mo, knowing that this movie will be a sure hit. He answered that there is a sure possibility of a part 2, that would only varies on scheduling the cast again.

So this Christmas, let us laugh and let the magic of Enteng ng Ina Mo entertain us. Get out the house and see this once in a lifetime film. For sure, this will make much money for MMFF. Don’t ever ever forget to watch Enteng ng Ina Mo on December 25. Starring Vic Sotto and Ai Ai Delas Alas.

Star Cinema's Segunda Mano

Ever wondered who was the owner of your bag you bought in Greenhills or Ukay?
Have it ever crossed in your mind how things around the house originated, especially antiques?

This December, be terrified with Star Cinema’s suspense horror film.

Segunda Mano, a movie of Star Cinema for 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival is one of the much awaited movies this year. A dream come true project, this is how can I describe the movie. This is the combination of gigantic talents of two rival networks, GMA-7 and ABSCBN-2. Starring the gems of ABSCBN, Angelica Panganiban and Multimedia Queen, Kris Aquino and joined by GMA’s premiere leading man, Dingdong Dantes. This is also the comeback of Movie Queen Ms. Helen Gamboa.

Ms. Helen plays the character of Adela, mother of Mabel (Kris Aquino). After the tragic death of her young daughter Marie, Adela grieved so much that she unintentionally lost affection for her other child Mabel. Adela knows that she can’t stand to lose her remaining daughter now that Mabel is haunted by a seemingly vengeful ghost.

Dingdong, on the other hand plays the character of Ivan Galvez, a rich and successful architect and recuperating from past heartache. Mabel and Ivan found love in a hopeless place. After he proposes to her, she started to experience thrilling encounters with a violent ghost that smash chaos on her and the people around her. Meanwhile, Angelica plays a very mysterious role that will make the audience think until the end of the film.

Director of the movie, Binibining Joyce Bernal attended the blog conference of the movie held at Tea Cup, Mother Ignacia. She shared motivations and visuals on how she came up with this film. She shared her personal experiences on encountering elements or ghost back in Sampaguita Pictures. Writer Joel Mercado explains how they came up with the concept of horror with the elements of a second hand items. He said that Filipinos are fond of buying signatures items but they don’t want to spend much that why many people settle for less expensive and second hand items.

I had a chance to ask Bb. Joyce about what makes Kris Aquino very appealing to horror films. In her reply, she describes Kris’ expression very communicative. She has the gift of convincing people how a certain scenario could be terrifying.

This Christmas, give you self and young loved ones a thrill on their spines and have a spooky holiday. I am inviting everyone to catch Star Cinema’s sure hit, Segunda Mano starring Kris Aquino, Dingdong Dantes, Angelica Panganiban and Ms. Helen Gamboa.

10 Reasons Why You Need to Watch 'My Househusband, Ikaw Na!

Christmas is the best way to celebrate ‘Love’ and ‘Abundance’. Philippines is the only country I know who celebrate Christmas season as a festive occasion. Streets are all lit up, cheers and carols are sung, and malls and street are crowded. People bond together and spent a good way to celebrate holiday extravagant.

Furthermore, Christmas is the also a celebration of abundance of our local cinema. Every December 25, Metro Manila Film Festival showcases their top and caliber movies. Varies from horror to comedy to drama etc. Film makers and producers give a brain drain on how they can give a quality and explosive film for moviegoers.

I have attended the blog conference of Metro Manila Film Feast entry of OctoArts Films, My Househusband – Ikaw Na! last Saturday in Guilly’s Bar in Tomas Morato. Bloggers from all side of the metro gathered for this one grand event. The conference was attended by the cast and lead of the movie; Roco Naccino, Ellen Adarna, Eugene Domingo, Judy Ann Santos and for his first title role, Ryan Agoncillo.

This Christmas, I’ll give you 10 reasons why you need to watch ‘My Househusband, Ikaw Na’:

10. Roco Naccino – Roco is one of the Philippine Hottest Guy in show business. He was one of the Cosmopolitan’s mouthwatering bachelors of 2011 and he is part of the film portraying a nurse brother of Judy Ann Santos.

9. Ellen Adarna – Tagged as one of the FHM’s Philippine Sexiest, she portrays a very cute role in the movie.

8. This is not a SEQUEL – For all those who will think that this is a third installation of Juday-Ryan film – THIS IS NOT. For two consecutive years, Juday-Ryan was one of the box office movies in the MMFF, after Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo then comes another hit Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo. Although same powerhouses are combined, including director – Direk Joey Reyes, the cast clearly said that this is far different from the first two movies. This is under OctoArts films and it offers different storylines and characters. Again – This is not a SEQUEL.

7. How to be a FATHER & MOTHER in a modern world – In the modern world today, men and women are now equal. Before the typical set up of a family is that the father will work and provide all the needs and mother will stay at home to nourish and take care of the children. But today, it is a mix of everything. Man learns to wash dishes, opens a cook book and sweeps the floor and does the laundry. Woman finds a decent job, go to work and earn the living for the family. I know so many families that have this set up. It doesn’t matter who stays at home and who works, what really matters is how the family is working out for each other.

6. No Other Woman ang Peg – With the success of movie No Other Woman, this movie has parodied the blockbuster film. The element of how the wife deals with his husband and his mistress but in a comic way. Mia, discovered that his husband Rod is having an affair with their neighbor. Although she is not threatened of what the other she can do, Mia stood up and fight for her family.

5. Direk Joey Reyes –  I have the most respect for Direk Joey, ever since I’ve watched his previous works, ‘9 Mornings’, ‘Kung Ako Na Lang Sana’, ‘KKK’ and ‘SSS’ and the epic movie ‘ Ora Plata Mata’. Since the start of his carrier, he has mastered the market of middle classes. Over the years, Direk Joey is contributing quality products for his audiences and never fails to wow his patronizes.

4. Eugene Domingo – No words can describe how talented can a Eugene Domingo is. A thespian, a singer, host, best actress and box office queen – she has come so far from the small roles she has been with.  One lesson she shared is to value the opportunities that we are showered of and develop the craft that we are gifted with. No other celebrity can surpass the talent, glamour, beauty and wit of Ms. Eugene Domingo.

She also shared that she will be doing a musical movie tribute for APO Hiking Society soon.

3. Judy Ann Santos – Judy Ann Santos is indeed the young Superstar. Her caliber of acting has never been surpassed. Even her batch mates never maintain their limelight as Juday did. A great carrier, a loving husband, a happy family .. what more can she wish for?

2. Ryan Agoncillo – After stepping from hosting to acting, Ryan Agoncillo proved to the world that he deserve what he is now. After their back to back blockbuster hits with his loving wife Juday, they are paired up again for a family oriented movie this Christmas. He plays Rod, a husband who needs to stay at home and take care of the children. The situation calls him to do so after kick out of work. Then she find a comfort with his bubbly neighbor Aida (Eugene Domingo) who soon changed the relationship between him and wife Mia (Juday).

1. Family Oriented Movie – The movie ‘My Househusband: IKaw Na’ is centered in a story of modern family today. A middle class family striving to survive amidst the odds and crisis calls by their nature. Everyone can appreciate the movie for it reflects the story of your/our family.

OctoArts Film's 'My Househusband: Ikaw Na!'

OctoArts Film’s entry for 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival is one of the most talked about movie in this year’s fest. Top billed by three gigantic names in the local entertainment industry – Judy Ann Santos, Eugene Domingo and Ryan Agoncillo in ‘My Househusband: Ikaw Na’. Directed by multi awarded and box office director and writer, Direk Joey Reyes – the film is a story of a couple who has a non-traditional set-up in that Rod (Ryan) takes care of the house and kids, while Mia (Juday) is the one who works for the family. Along the way, conditions arise that test the understanding and their relationship.

Rod and Aida (Eugene) build up a strong friendship and developed into a deep relationship. Eugene said ‘It will make you think about — or make that, rethink — the roles a man and a woman play in a marriage, the relationships between the opposite sex, the importance of and dynamics in communication, and so on. Makatotohanan ang kuwento ng pelikula at kung ’di niyo man makita ang sarili niyo kay Mia, Rod o Aida ay may kakilala kayo na kahawig ng buhay nung tatlo’.  She added that this movie is so special to her for so many reasons; one of those is for she plays a mistress – a first time in her career.

Direk Joey describes the film as a ‘real life’ movie. He added ‘Madami ng househusbands sa panahon ngayon who became one either by choice or circumstance — at alin man sa dalawa ang dahilan ay hindi ’yon masama. In the film, we explored the intricacies of being in the shoes of the househusband as well as the working mother.Nagbabago ang panahon at ito ang katotohanan sa ngayon sa madaming mag-asawa,

Ryan and Juday’s roles turn into even more realistic approach in their characters in many aspects. They know exactly what it’s akin to to raise kids, to weigh career and family life, to continue to be best friends with significance to each other even after tying the knot, and to be clear on priorities and keep the sense of humor especially through thin. Direk Joey made a special note of the confrontation scene between Mia and Aida – “Kakabugin nila si Anne Curtis at Cristine Reyes in No Other Woman.”

What is so exciting about this film is the element of combined expontaneous talent of Juday, Ryan, Eugene and Direk Joey. They don’t need to prove themselves for the made histories already. Juday and Ryan’s market are perfect for today’s movie goers. Modern family setting is one of the most interesting stories today. Eugene’s addition to this film will really make your gas out. She never fails to make us laugh. What I think is the best element of this film is the realistic approach of their story. It somehow reflects your story, my story or the story of someone you know.

So come out of the crib this Christmas and spend a good movie to watch. Get ‘My Househusband: Ikaw Na’ on your top list. Let us support our local film industry.

Album Review: Talk That Talk – Rihanna

Rihanna’s new record is bolder and braver!

She has finally moved-on on her previous self battle against troubled relationship with Chris Brown. Her past albums Rated R and Loud are distincssively influenced by her previous hitch. A renewed Rihanna has arise in this album, Talk That Talk.

I would agree to many reviews and critics that her sixth album is her firmest and most promising yet – relentlessly catching and danceable pop album. Rihanna is 100 percent back on its original root – Pop/Rnb. With my previous review with her album Loud, I mentioned that it was a variety of genres in one pack. But with this new package, Talk That Talk is pure pop/rnb!

This album has perfect pop songs and delivering the set of which Rihanna was original made of. This distinction was become her calling card and weapon for the last five years of her career, and becoming the fastest solo artist to have 20 top 10 singles on Billboard Hot 100. This album could have been the start of RiRi’s evanescence back to contemporary pop and rnb.

Album Cover

The album cover of this record has two versions – colored and grayscaled.

In the colored cover Rihanna looks seductive in the image, with her red lipstick and tounge slip and she is wearing a commouflaged top. In the alternate cover, she out a puff of smoke in her mouth and is shot in grayscale. Rihanna billowing smoke out of her mouth whilst staring into the camera with "piercing eyes".

Tracks

The album begins at a low down, the staccato vocal hooks of You Da One smooth rather than engaging. The wet, buzzing Where Have You Been is one of two productions from Calvin Harris – analytical of the mainstream dance scene of the UK and Europe making stable sequence into the US RnB market. It’s an inoffensive pairing of building beats and sliced-and-diced vocals: to the right feet on the right dancefloor it’ll be manna itself manifested as an arms-in-the-air clubbing highlight. The second Harris hook-up, We Found Love, swells with fevered keys until it explodes, blinding neon like, all over its frenetic, repetitive chorus. It’s by-numbers fare from Harris, given edge by a quite deliberately provocative music video – just the 47 million YouTube views since mid-October.

A vocal from Jay Z on the title-track indicate an awful exercise in quasi-erotic wordplay, on Cockiness (Love It) and a wholly pointless minute, although the beats and the rhytm are so addictive. At its halfway mark Talk That Talk takes a turn for the downbeat, the Beyonce style paean to perfect monogamy We All Want Love sitting awkwardly beside questionable sexual morals presented by earlier cuts.

The album’s principal themes are Love and Sex – with a less-heavy hand – like Roc Me Out: "I'll let you in on a dirty secret/ I just want to be loved." Drunk on Love is my favorite track wherein she describes being so much in love to being drunk and sober. Watch n’ Learn, which has flickers of BeyoncĂ©’s recent “Party,” has good mouth feel but no taste. And Farewell, the most bombastic one here, it’s tough to tell if the words have feeling, because Rihanna’s voice doesn’t.

In the recent past Rihanna show a cool dispassion; here, she’s trapped between playing the characters of a ruthless dominatrix and a passive sort willing to be putty in a boy’s hands. Im sure that her sevent album is the rise of the real Rihanna.
